It’s going to be an interesting next couple of days as we eye down another potentially massive storm. I suppose there’s a small chance it could be historic, but at this point it’s probably going to be hard to beat Snowmageddon. For one thing, the winds won’t be even close, so the drifting won’t be nearly as bad. However, it could still be a pretty hefty snowfall for an urban area to deal with. On top of that we’re adding the threat of some very significant freezing rain and ice pellets. The challenge with this storm will be figuring out where the snow-ice pellets and ice pellets-freezing rain lines end up.
For the time being I think it’s a decent idea to prepare for a major storm. There is still some room for this to become less menacing, so we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, if you want to stock up on anything that’s low, gas up your snow blower etc etc, that wouldn’t be a terrible idea. Do you have to go out and buy enough stuff to last you weeks? No… I mean, there are very few scenarios where that’s actually a thing anyway. Just make sure you can survive a few days to let the snow clearing operations do their thing.
We have some special weather statements in effect ahead of this system, as well as some freezing drizzle advisories near the Strait of Belle Isle. You can find the details on those here.
