We already have a few extreme cold warnings in effect for parts of Labrador. You can get those specifics here. My best tip for fighting wind chill is to dress in a few warm layers with a good thick windproof jacket on the outside. Make sure you have a warm hat, warm mittens, and a scarf or face protection. Essentially expose a little skin as possible, and if you can avoid walking directly into the wind that would be best.
If you do have to walk into the wind, you can try to block the wind with your glove hands, or if you’re face is covered you can try to aim your warm breath upwards out of the covering. That can keep your eyes from feeling like they are freezing off, but be aware that you may develop some icy eyebrows / lashes. If the wind is strong enough, your eyelashes may feel like they are freezing together, but the ice should break off pretty easy, so don’t panic. Pocket warmers in your gloves / mitts are also a decent method of fighting off the chill. Again, limit the time with exposed skin to a minimum, especially if you’re going to handling any cold metallic objects. If you don’t have a face covering, you can always try alternating between walking facing the wind, and walking backwards into the wind. Not recommended for areas with traffic, but it can give your face enough of a break from the wind chill to warm up.
Otherwise, the latest normal highs for Newfoundland for this week are -1 to -4 C, with lows of -9 to -15 C. Newfoundland’s lows continue to drop, but the high has pretty much plateaued. For Labrador it’s the same, the highs remain at -13 to -17 C, even showing signs of warming by the end of the week. The lows don’t move much, but are still getting slightly colder, between -23 and -29 C.
