I am in between my first and second night shift in a run of three in a row, so updates will be sparse this weekend. The storm system has moved off shore, but it’s still causing some warnings and will continue to do so until possibly Monday night.
We have some wind warnings for both Newfoundland northeast coast and Labrador southeast coast. Mostly for tonight and Sunday. In addition to that, we have a blowing snow advisory for southeastern Labrador (pretty much only for Black Tickle). That might be need to be a blizzard, depends on how much snow falls. Similarly, if the flurries along the northeast coast are worse than expected, a blowing snow advisory might be needed there as well.
Finally, there’s a special weather statement out for some very large long wave swell moving down from the north. The exiting low pressure system is also the culprit, as it’s expected to spin around south of Greenland for a few days. Those large swells should cause elevated risk of coastal flooding in any communities facing the north between Fogo Island and St. John’s. The highest risk is likely for the high tide Sunday night into Monday morning, but the swell will still be around until Tuesday morning as well.
You can find the latest official details here. I will try to squeeze out a few updates later once I wake up.
