Just a quick update today. We’ve got a few alerts on the go having to do with wind, blowing snow, and storm surge. Have a look at the specifics here.
Otherwise, just a little extra on the storm surge warning. The main factor here is storm surge on top of an already high tide (since the new moon was recent). There is still a wave component, with 5 meter waves coming in, but that will only affect southeast facing coastlines. The water level will be higher than normal “everywhere” (meaning even in sheltered bays) due to the storm surge, but also a bit higher in southeast facing areas where the waves can push that water up further onto the shore. As it stands right now our system is flagging water levels to reach just shy of the level we normally see flooding, and usually it under forecasts the storm surge by about 10 to 20 cm. So it’s likely we’ll see some water very high on the local wharves / coastlines, with water splashing up in southeast facing areas where the waves are a factor. This should be an issue for 2 to 3 hours on either side of the near noon high tide on Sunday.
