Well surprisingly we still somehow broke a temperature record yesterday. If anyone saw my post on the “winning” areas yesterday, you would have noticed some cloud holes over southwestern Newfoundland. Apparently that tiny bit of sun was enough to break a record in Burgeo and tie the record in Port aux Basques. Details here.
Otherwise, we still have some special weather statement in effect to cover today’s weather. You can read up the latest on those here. These systems can be a pain as they almost always start off looking pretty mean in the medium range forecast so we pretty much have to send out alerts on them, and by the time they arrive they’ve lost most of their teeth. Not always though. It was just about 10 years ago that St. John’s saw their worst snow storm of the year right around this time. And we can’t forget Gander’s 50+ cm on May 2-4 weekend… Or the snow on June 26th… It’s Newfoundland spring. Snow is included in the plan, and you can’t opt out of it.
Either way, we won’t have to wait long to find out if today’s storm has any surprises in store for us. If it goes according to forecast, it won’t be too bad for most areas.
