We are well into the latest cycle of breaking max temperatures almost every day. Another one set in Hopedale yesterday, particulars can be found here. While setting a new max temperature record for a day isn’t particularly noteworthy most of the time, the amount we’ve been setting them in the last 5 years has increased quite a bit. It is a little more pronounced in the shoulder seasons, where max temps aren’t supper high because it’s generally not supposed to be that warm during early Spring / Late Fall. Now, any time it’s sunny, you’ve basically got a decent change to break a record, especially in places that aren’t particularly used to being warm.

Anywho, to slightly more pressing problems, we do have a blowing snow advisory in effect for parts of the Labrador interior today. You can read up the specifics of those here.

As stated in my tweet, I spent a lot of the time I wanted to use updating the blog reading up on the Kuchera snow to liquid water method. Sadly there’s not much info on it, but what I did find points to it being an empirical method derived from volunteer snowfall measurements in the states. So it’s not without value, but you can’t quite use it without digging a bit more either (which is why I looked into it as it’s relevant to today’s snowfall forecast in western Labrador). I did ask a few colleagues who might have some more info on it, so if I do find it I will post the info in a future note.
