Well there you have it, a new year. Politically, this will probably be a rough one. Weather wise, likely some kind of version of uncharted. If we’re lucky it’s another mild version of uncharted, kind of like 2024. The year was not without it’s trials, especially when we had major evacuations of populated areas in Labrador due to wildfires. We continue to set all time monthly records for warm temperatures, especially on the colder side of the shoulder seasons. We’ve had simultaneously the rainiest November on record for many areas of eastern Newfoundland, and the rainiest month ever recorded in Bonavista. The temperature records are easy to attribute to our warming climate, the rainfall is tougher. Regardless we’ve been lucky in the sense that the impacts have been relatively mild this past year, which is probably not something we’re going to be able to dodge forever. However, it would be nice if we also stayed under the radar in 2025. Time will tell.

In the meantime, we’ve got an active 1st week of the year coming up. We’ll start off with another shot of rain before getting our first major winter storm of the year. Snow, rain, and wind is likely to be the story later this week. Either way, now that the busy holiday season is done, let’s get started on some updates.
