We have a bit of a wild week ahead of us, especially when you consider the Christmas season. There are three different storms expected to cross the province in the next 7 days, the weakest to start, a slightly stronger one by mid week, and a strong one for the weekend. If you’re expecting packages via the mail or are travelling (myself is included in this category) expect some delays. This is the main reason I hate travelling at Christmas, there’s basically a 1 in 3 chance of a storm moving through on any given day. (expand for more)

However, for areas on the northwestern half of the Island and in Labrador, the chances are looking fairly good for a white Christmas. In the southeast… ehhh I wouldn’t take bets on that just yet. I mean, if you live in St. John’s I probably would never bet on that, but hey I’m not here to teach you how to gamble.

Since the last update we’ve seen a lot of significant warmth, setting new monthly records for December in 4 locations, and breaking a whole slew of daily records. (See my social media posts for those details) What’s even more significant about that is, the locations that set new monthly records in Labrador had done the same thing around this time last year. For anyone who knows how statistics work, that’s really really really really…. REALLY unlikely unless you’ve changed something in the system. I wonder what that could be… hmmmmm…

Overall, it’s probably going to be a bit of a challenge to move around this Christmas season, so try your best not to get snappy with strangers and keep it all in stride. The weather isn’t just affecting you, and even if you arrive a day late, your Christmas and time with loved ones will still happen as long as you make safe decisions. Looking beyond the 7 days (please take with healthy salt grainage), it does look like the period around Christmas Eve / Christmas Day will be more quiet. So delays ahead of Christmas might not flip the whole table over, so to speak. Fingers crossed…
